How to log in with ssh to manage the Zope server

Nidelven provides general instructions for getting and using ssh, which is required to install products or restart the Zope server, at:

Using ssh

After downloading Putty, the ssh client, to your local disk, open it.

Enter imym.org in the "Host Name" box and click "Open."  (You can save the host name by entering a file name and clicking the "Save" button, then just use "Load" next time.  Use the same procedure to save all your configurations, such as initiating logging, for the next time.)  There is much more at the PuTTY user manual

Log in as imym.

Log out after your session with "exit" -- which will also close Putty.

Putty is a command line client similar to DOS.  Unlike DOS, you can enter text, such as a long command and argument (useful when downloading a product using a URL), by selecting the text for the command and at the Putty command prompt clicking the left mouse button.

Some of the most useful commands are:

cd  [for change directory, use with directory name]

dir  [provides a list of files]

To see more commands, enter "help" and you get:

These shell commands are defined internally.  Type `help' to see this list.
Type `help name' to find out more about the function `name'.
Use `info bash' to find out more about the shell in general.
Use `man -k' or `info' to find out more about commands not in this list.

A star (*) next to a name means that the command is disabled.
