When Will U.S. Apologize for Boarding School Genocide?
From Paula Palmer: This article in Indian Country Today calls on the US to initiate a Truth, Reconciliation, and Healing process similar to the one that has been going on for the past several years in Canada. The Canadian commission found that the residential school policy for First Nations was "cultural genocide." Michelle Obama recently acknowledged the need for truth, reconciliation, and healing for the ongoing impacts of the Indian boarding schools in our country.

A New imym.org Look

IMYM Friends – you see that the website has a new look, a consequence of modernizing its software. This home page looks different and some tabs and their content have been updated, but using the site should feel familiar. Several improvements have long awaited the improved software. Other improvements were been encouraged by what you told us in the June 2014 IMYM Website Survey - thanks to those of you who helped in that way.

Some of the changes you will notice include:

    • The Home page will look better to the eye with a more open layout, some images, more use of links to make it easier to find current postings, a bit more color, and access to general introduction to Quakerism and IMYM.
    • An Upcoming Events panel with links to event details, located in the left-hand sidebar.
    • An expanded News panel, again linked to details, located below the Events window.
    • The Guide to Procedures (including job descriptions) has been moved to a Procedures tab alongside the familiar Faith and  Practice tab.
    • The Contact Us tab contains an expanded list of key yearly meeting contacts.
    • The Quaker Links list has been modernized. Suggestions for additional links are welcomed (email Jim Mills at mills_j at fortlewis dot edu).
    • Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico Regional Meeting folders are now found in the Regional Meetings folder in Site Contents. (UFF Friends are invited to request a folder too (email Jim Mills).

The website will continue to evolve. If you have suggestions or comments, please contact one of us.

AFSC Report -- A New Path: toward humane immigration policy
Published February 2009. The principles and recommendations of A New Path: Toward Humane Immigration Policy are grounded in AFSC’s history and values as a faith-based organization and the voices of the communities with whom we are deeply connected. AFSC supports measures that ensure the integration of immigrants as full members of our society and address the root causes that push people to migrate. We believe that the basis of U.S. immigration policy should be the protection of human rights rather than an immigration system designed to supply labor to employers.
