What's Emerging at IMYM
Youth and Families
An active discussion at the September online Business Meeting led to unity in discernment to increase the annual monthly meeting assessment by $10 per member. The gathered expressed the importance of the Youth and Family to all of IMYM and as such should be supported by IMYM, not just individually motivated and able donors. This speaks volumes on the growing awareness that being a year-’round meeting supporting all ages is recognized as part of our mission.
Budgets, Financial accounting and reporting
The complexity of responding to the Business Meeting’s call to action put light on our budgeting, accounting and reporting practices. We have the tools we need. Our Treasurer and Clerk of Finance have set about the work to bring a new budget for approval, along with revised accounting and reporting methods to a business meeting that is expected in January. These folks are hard at work.
Reducing Isolation
Social isolation is a recognized national problem, even in faith communities (see Social Isolation Statistics: 2026 Market Report ). Greater participation in monthly meeting as well as in half-yearly and yearly meeting helps reduce this trend. Extending our invitation to our neighbors is a very Quakerly thing to do; extending participation to the young is vital for us all. Participation is vital. Please consider your gifts and leadings - is there a way for you to increase your participation and/or to invite others?
Experiment and Share
IMYM has a few medium-sized cities and a lot of rural space! This challenges us Friends! But we have a well-seasoned tool: Quaker Experience (Experimentation). Are you a willing new or old experimenter? Perhaps you are led to join a small project group to experiment with new ways to engage - across ages and spaces and times. If you are even curious, please reach out to clerk@imym.org.
Do you value documents?
They are vital to our life together. We are in current need of volunteers to work on various aspects of document management. Our Administrative Assistant is leading this effort - and if you have not had the chance to work with Bronwen, you have missed out!
