New Mexico Regional  Meeting - Fall Gathering 2025

Connecting, Celebrating, and Serving

Sept 26-28, 2025

UNM Sevilleta Field Station

Come one, come all! Please register now to join us in fellowship at this fall’s gathering of our New Mexico Regional Meeting, Sept 26-28, 2025 at Sevilleta. We hope that our weekend theme of “Connecting, Celebrating, and Serving” will help us gather in community, ground ourselves, connect to each other, tend to spirit, and equip us to better serve with love and joy in this otherwise tumultuous and crazy-making world.

We hope not just to (re)connect with each other this year but also to explore a new site for regional gathering –  the UNM Sevilleta Field Station, about 20 miles north of Socorro just off of I-25. The Field Station offers a central NM location, a natural setting, retreat-like space, good accessibility and affordability, with comfortable simple housing. There is also a nearby RV campground as well as motel rooms half an hour away in Socorro.

The mission of the Field Station is “to promote understanding and preservation of the the natural environment,” and the Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge lies at the junction of several major biomes of the American Southwest, with rich ecosystems that are the inspiration for both science and art on display at the Field Station.

Connecting, celebrating, and serving with and within our New Mexican natural world will be an integral part of the weekend experience. Holly Baldwin and Elizabeth Freyman will offer us opportunities to reflect on our theme with interactive and reflective activities that are intergenerational whenever possible. Elizabeth is youth religious education coordinator, and Holly is a spiritual director who has most recently been leading opportunities for “Grounding and Connection for Crisis Times.”

There will be opportunities throughout the weekend for worshipful reflection and renewal, including outdoor sunrise worships on Saturday and Sunday. (for those willing to “rise” to the occasion!)

Please fill out and return the registration form as soon as possible to join us and reserve your place among Friends!

Important notes:

  • *MEALS: Simple communal dinners will be provided Friday and Saturday evening (with vegan, vegetarian, dairy and gluten free options). Otherwise, there will be yogurt, granola and fruit provided at breakfast and bread, cheese, peanut butter & jelly at lunch. Please bring what you need for breakfasts and lunches beyond these items. There are shared kitchens with refrigerators in the “houses” used for accommodations.

  • **SITE: The on-site staff, both from the Field Station and Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge are extraordinarily welcoming, and we hope that Friends will be equally engaged with connecting, celebrating, and serving this site and its community (both human and the wild community). On Friday, the staff are holding the visitor center open for us until 5:00 as a special gift to those who can arrive a little early. At 5:00, Art Benavidez is offering to orient us to the site, its work, and our natural environment for the weekend. On Saturday morning, we will have the opportunity to appreciate the science and art that celebrate the natural site, to go into a bio lab to look at natural specimens up close and under microscopes and engage in activities. We’ll also be helping serve the site by doing clean up and other outdoor activities (similar to a work day at a meeting house – bring work shoes and gloves if possible).

  • PHOTOGRAPHS/PHOTOGRAPHERS?: Please consider being willing to be photographed while engaged in on-site activities. And if you are a good photographer, please consider volunteering to take photographs of those willing to be photographed during intergenerational activity on site, including any service work. These photos would not only be nice for our own memories, but would be an additional service to the site, since it could help the site publicize its activities and advocate for continued funding.
